It's day 3 in Berlin, for us at 7 AM.
The flight was pretty uncomfortable, I wasn't able to sleep at all... ended up playing a bunch of golf and chess on those screens. We got to Amsterdam and had to wait around for our flight to Berlin, and is also where I had to say bye to Yvonne for the time being. :(
The first day it was pretty stressful, we got to our air bnb and buzzed the host but he didn't answer so we had to go to a local corner store and use their internet and phone which was difficult cause everything is in german and everything is odd. Eventually, we got a hold of the guy and he said he sent us a PDF explaining the instructions to get into the apartment... We had to go to this sketchy cafe around the corner and tell the lady the secret password "john key".
We eventually got in and got cozy. Meant to take a nape for 30 minutes but ended up napping for 2 hrs. After we woke up, we ended up going for pho, which seems to be the Berlin equivalent to sushi in Vancouver. They also have a lot of shwarma and sushi places and as well. It was quite the ordeal ordering because, well, we don't speak german. It was only AFTER we ordered that the lady brought us an english menu. Then we just came back and watched tv shows on my computer until around 10pm and fell asleep.
Got up the next morning and decided we wanted to make breakfast and bought a bunch of groceries, and saw heaven in the form of an aisle! It was all beer, which was all under a EURO. We said we'd go back to buy a flat of beer. We got our groceries and walked back to our apartment and made brekkie and planned our trip to Mitte a pretty hip suburb of Berlin, It was difficult trying to get there cause they had 3 different modes of public transportation, the subway, the tram and the train. So it took us a bit to actually find the stop we were supposed to go to, but alas we able to. Went to this store called Weekend and dear lord to the europeans know how to make stuff that fit my fucking weird body type. We wandered around and we found the APC store... and I bought a pair of jeans. So there's 215 Euros gone in one day. We also bought a beer and walked over to a park in the area and drank the beer and ate the sandwiches we made earlier. On our way back we decided to buy one of those flats of beers for 18 euros, it's the greatest.
Then we got back to the apartment, and got into contact with our friends Morgan and Hayato who just got in that afternoon. We went for sushi, which wasn't very good... So we made it back to our place and Hayato really wanted to go walk around Berlin with beers and explore the city at night, but as soon as we got to the apartment we pretty much passed out. They just ended up going back to their place.
Been uber busy lately, but not with school this time!
I'm apart of this really cool business venture, with from buddies from school. We're joined with 2 charities at the moment RIGHT TO PLAY and HEROS HOCKEY.
The idea is that $5 of every T-shirt that's sold goes to charity! We already have some cool people ready to promote our stuff. As well, we're going to make it super easy for our customers to donate. All they have to do is tweet a picture of themselves wearing the t-shirt and a $1 will go to charity.
Wish us luck with Potential Apparel!! Launch will be Mid April.
Website isn't up yet, but in the mean time check out our facebook group
This week we broke off into teams again and had to research different time eras of Droog and Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE).
My team researched DROOG and DAE from 2009 - Present and what we think will happen in the future. We had a bit of a struggle because we weren't able to rely on book, it took many hours of scouring the internet to find all the appropriate info.
